Lale 2.0 Series - Safranum Jewelry
Handmade in Connecticut
Lale (Tulips in Turkish)
Derived from a 14th century Saz style green colored İznik vase. Saz stands for lines and floral motifs, especially Tulips. The tulip flower shape is precious in Islam because the shape of a folded tulip petals is similar to “Allah” written in Arabic. The name Iznik comes from a small town in Turkey, still famous today for their unique clay creations. This handmade necklace set is inspired by this process and it is an attempt to capture the essence of this beautiful clay formation. The different size of green beads in the necklace represent the sole purpose of various dimensions of lines in the Saz style. In the finished design the two pink beads represent the tulip flowers and the beautiful patina of green beads in the front represent the stems that support the tulip flowers. The delicate stones in between are purple hematite. They represent the geometric pattern of the theme and help the composition of the necklace.
