Ocean Vuong / MATRIX 199 I’m Sorry I Love You August 6, 2026–January 24, 2027
Vietnamese American author, essayist, and poet, Ocean Vuong is best known for his critically acclaimed debut novel and New York Times bestseller, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. He is also an accomplished photographer, using portraiture, landscape, and snapshots to document queer and immigrant life in the Connecticut River Valley over two decades. In I’m Sorry I Love You, Vuong follows the river’s ancient routes and variegated currents, with inspiration from Tracy Chapman’s song “Fast Car” and Paul Éluard’s credo, “There is another world, but it is in this one.” Through this series, he enacts a visual-communal autobiography, one that carries the temporality, historicity, and discovered mythos of daily life.
