Born in Jamaica and raised in America, Tamara Madden was a mixed media artist and a professor of art and visual culture at Spelman College in Atlanta. Inspired by her homeland, Gustav Klimt, and Ras Ammar Nsoroma, Madden frequently illustrated Black women of the African diaspora in elaborate headdresses and lavish ensembles. Madden’s use of mixed media shines in the four images in this card set, with her combination of paint and textured elements allowing the clothing and headdresses to captivate.
